Ludhiana, June 12
A joint team of CIA staff-1 and Basti Jodhewal police on Sunday arrested a resident of Mangli village wanted in the January 4 case of firing at the house of a student leader, Gurpreet Singh.
The police said the fugitive, Jaspreet Singh alias Billa, was arrested from Gehlewal-turning on Rahon Road. Amanjot Chauhan, the prime accused in the case, was arrested by the police in the course of investigation on January 28, 2022 while Vishu Kainth and an unidentified accused (believed to be Jaspreet Singh) were at large. Amanjot was booked under Sections 307, 506, 34, 120-B of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 25, 54, 59 of the Arms Act.
The accused was being produced in a court for obtaining police custody and carry out further interrogation. The police said during the investigation it was found that there was a rivalry between groups of students led by Amanjot Chauhan and Gurpreet Singh over students’ union elections of GGN Khalsa College. After the election Amanjot, along with two others, had opened fire outside the residence of Gurpreet.
