Ludhiana, February 29

The Ludhiana police have registered a case against the Congress leadership for creating a ruckus at the Zone A office of the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation on February 27. The Congress leaders and workers held a protest and later stormed into the office and tried to lock its gate.

Those booked include Ludhiana MP Ravneet Singh Bittu, former Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu, former MLA-cum-district Congress president Sanjay Talwar, senior deputy mayor Shyam Sundar Malhotra former and 60 unidentified persons.

On the complaint of Amit Kumar, a watchman at MC Zone A office, the case was registered under Sections 186 (whoever voluntarily obstructs any public servant in the discharge of his public functions) and 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of the IPC. No arrest has been made in this regard yet.

Notably, MP Ravneet Bittu, along with the Congress leadership and a large number of party workers, had reached the Ludhiana MC Zone A office on February 27. They clashed with the police and jumped barricades to reach the gate of the MC office. The party workers also threw bangles at the police. As the gate was locked by the Congress leaders, MC staff from inside the office cut the chain and lock with a machine.

‘FIRs are like medals for us’

Ravneet Bittu, along with Bharat Bhushan Ashu and other Congress leadership, addressed a press conference on Thursday. Bittu termed the Aam Aadmi Party a “kamjor sarkar” (weak government). “When we raise the voice of people, these FIRs are like medals for us. We are not fleeing anywhere, come and arrest us. Now, we will lock other government offices such as BDPO, RTA and GLADA where corruption is at all-time high. The FIR was registered against 60 unidentified persons. Rather, hundreds of Congress workers were accompanying us and they will join us in future as well,” alleged Bittu.

Meanwhile, Bittu raised questions over MC officials for failing to take action against AAP MLAs, who broke seals of illegal buildings sealed by the MC.
