Payal, July 5

People from all walks of life across political and social barriers paid rich tributes to Sikh revolutionary Baba Maharaj Singh at Rabbon Uchi village in Ludhiana district. Baba Maharaj Singh had led an anti-British movement in Punjab after the first Anglo-Sikh war and exhorted the people to strive for unity and integrity of the nation and follow the path shown by the first Sikh martyr of the independence struggle.

MLAs Manwinder Singh Giaspura, Jaswant Singh Gajjanmajra and Payal SDM Deepjot Kaur paid tributes the martyr.

“The British got tip-off of the plans made by Baba Maharaj Singh in league with his comrades and imprisoned and sent him to Singapore where he suffered innumerable hardships and was martyred on July 5, 1856,” claimed Giaspura.

The speakers said residents should follow the teachings of the martyr who fought for the freedom of the nation.

MLA Giaspura said he was committed to the overall development of Payal constituency.
