  • The Punjab Government has allowed hotels, restaurants and marriage halls to operate at 50 per cent capacity with strict adherence to the social-distancing norm and other health protocols. The restaurants in the state are now allowed to run ‘dine-in’ facility till 8 pm, with 50 per cent occupancy or 50 guests, whichever is less.

As the government has allowed restaurants to open from Wednesday with the condition that they must ensure compliance of all guidelines, the Ludhiana police have formed teams to carry out random checks at these places.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Headquarters and Security, Akhil Chaudhary told The Tribune that the police wanted the restaurants to follow all precautions while serving clients. “The police don’t want to trouble any restaurant, dine-in or marriage palace. They can run their operations smoothly but they must ensure social distancing, hygiene and other norms which could prevent the spread of Covid-19. The police will also hold a meeting with the restaurant owners in this regard,” added Akhil.

The DCP said all SHOs had been told to carry out random checks at the restaurants and if any violation is noticed, the police would immediately take legal action.

Furthermore, the police have already launched a special campaign, ‘Operation Safe Punjab’, against people not wearing masks, not maintaining social distancing in shops, markets, residential areas and buses, etc. People violating the number limit for gatherings, especially at restaurants, marriage palaces, on two-wheelers, autos and four-wheelers would also be acted against under the campaign.
