Leaders of Indian pharmaceutical firms today assured Prime Minister Narendra Modi of the steps they were taking to ease the supply of COVID related drugs even as the PM thanked them for major cuts in Remdesivir costs.

In a virtual interaction with pharma leaders today, the PM urged them to undertake research on new age threats to prepare India better for any future health crisis.

He also told the industry that the government was undertaking reforms for new drugs and regulatory processes.

Thanking the industry for making India ‘the pharmacy of world’, the PM said essential medicines were made available to more than 150 countries around the world during the pandemic.

He said despite challenges, the Indian pharma industry had registered a growth of 18 per cent in exports last year, which shows its potential.

Noting the second wave of the virus and rising number of cases, PM Modi commended the pharma industry for their efforts to increase production of several necessary drugs and urged them to ensure seamless supply chains assuring them Logistics and Transportation.
