Patiala, February 1
National Deworming Day is observed on February 5 to spread awareness regarding the health threat of intestinal worms and promote health.
Patiala DC Showkat Ahmad Parray released posters related to the day and informed that all children in the district aged one to 19 will be administered Albendazole tablets on the day. He said children aged two to 19 will receive a full tablet, while those aged one to two will be given half a tablet.
He highlighted that nearly 6.41 lakh children studying in recognised private schools and colleges, and being taken care of at anganwadi centres in the district will be provided the tablet. He added that meetings have been held with the Education Department, and the Women and Child Development Department to ensure the success of this initiative.
Civil Surgeon Dr Raminder Kaur clarified that the tablet is not to be given on an empty stomach. She explained that this initiative will provide relief to children from intestinal worms, which often lead to physical weakness, anaemia and behavioral issues due to daily nutritional loss caused by these worms.
She urged parents to support the Health Department in administering this tablet to their children for better health and wellbeing.
