The Punjab Cabinet today gave the green light to hold a special one-day session of the Vidhan Sabha on November 6, three days before Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh leads an all-party delegation to Kartarput through the corridor, to mark the 550th birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev.

The Cabinet, at a meeting held here today in PUDA ground, decided to recommend to the Governor summoning the 9th session of House under the relevant provisions of the Constitution of India.

The Cabinet also gave approval to phase-wise recruitment of 994 new posts of Mohali Medical College’s faculty, including para medical staff and other posts. This decision will pave the way for the first session of the college to commence in 2020-21. This has been done ostensibly to provide affordable health care and state-of-the-art diagnostic services to the public and also to let students pursue a career in medical education.

Approval was also given for the sanction for four vacant posts at Qila Mubarik in Patiala.

The Cabinet also gave the green light to the new guidelines for the disbursement of capital subsidy and investment incentives to industrial units lying closed in Punjab. The Cabinet also approved reduction in the existing provision of maximum period of continuous leave for five years by amending Punjab Civil Services rules.

Ex facto approval was also given to revive two posts of drivers at Punjab Raj Bhavan. The Cabinet also approved the annual administrative report of the Rural Development and Panchayats Department highlighting its activities for the year 2017-18.

The decks have also been cleared for appointments to be made to the State Police Complaints Authority under the ‘Punjab Police Act-2007’ with the Cabinet approving the Punjab Police (Appointment of Chairperson and Members of Complaints Authorities) Rules, 2019.

Now an officer of the rank of Chief Secretary or Secretary to the Government of India can be appointed as Chairperson of the State Police Complaints Authority. The other two members could be in the rank of Principal Secretary or ADGP or persons from academic, social work or law and public affairs fields.

Thandi to be extradited
