Noting that significant progress has been made with regard to construction work on the Kartarpur Sahib corridor on the Indian side, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) today informed that the Land Port Authority of India (LPAI) and National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) had been given a firm deadline to complete the works of Phase-I by September this year.
A senior MHA official said the plan for the Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) complex had been approved and Rs 195 crore had been sanctioned. They also informed that the process of land acquisition was underway in coordination with the Punjab Government as the Centre had already released Rs 17.48 crore for the purpose.
Tenders for the construction of PTB were issued on March 9 and a pre-bid meeting was held with prominent construction companies, the officials said, adding that the last date to submit tender documents was April 9.
For the 4.2-km four-lane highway connecting the PTB, the NHAI was in the process of acquiring 23 hectares and for this, the NHAI had sanctioned Rs 120 crore, of which the agency had already released Rs 14 crore, they said.
