A constable of the Jammu and Kashmir Police was shot at when they raided a hotel near the Amritsar railway station to arrest two murder accused on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday.

Constable Indu Bhushan was admitted to a private hospital where his condition was stated to be stable.

The Amritsar police have nabbed the accused identified as Arun Choudhary, alias Abu Jatt, and Atul Choudhary, alias Ravi, of Jammu and Kashmir.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (North) Varinder Singh Khosa said the duo had killed a man in a gang war on December 25 in the area falling under jurisdiction of the Ramgarh police station.

He said the J&K police team headed by SI Deepak Sharma approached the Amritsar police and the Civil Lines police accompanied them to Bharat Hotel near the railway station.

He said as Bhushan caught Arun, Atul shot at the police team and a bullet hit the constable on his waist.

Khosa said the police team immediately overpowered the accused and took them into custody.

The ACP said the Civil Lines police had registered a case against the accused under relevant sections of the IPC and the Arms Act. He said the duo was produced in the court, which sent them to two-day police custody.
