The Indian women’s hockey team registered two victories on the opening day of the FIH Hockey5s Women’s World Cup to climb to the top of Pool C here today.

India edged out Poland 5-4 before easing to a 7-3 victory against USA. Deepika Soreng scored two goals each in the two matches. India play Namibia tomorrow.

India held by France

Cape Town: The men’s team was held to a 2-2 draw by France in its second game of the Four-Nation Tournament.

Mandeep Singh (8th minute) and Amit Rohidas (19th) scored for India, while France came back with goals from Timothee Clement (37th) and B Gaspard (59th). India had earlier defeated France 4-0.
