New Delhi, November 20

An occasion that would raise much dust passed away unnoticed with a Pakistani sports team landing in the national capital on Saturday.

The Pakistan Junior hockey team reached here for the Men’s Junior World Cup which will take place in Bhubaneswar from November 24 to December 5. Aftab Hasan Khan, Charge d’ Affaires at Pakistan High Commission, hosted a lunch for the team, said a Pakistan news release.

The team’s arrival closely follows the beginning of pilgrim exchanges between the two countries. About 1,500 Sikh pilgrims are in Pakistan till November 26 for a pilgrimage of Gurdwaras on the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak. And, about 70 Pakistani pilgrims are in India for the 718th Urs of Hazrat Khwaja Nizamuddin Auliya in Delhi till November 25.

Also, India opened the Kartarpur corridor after suspending travel for 20 months due to the pandemic. On the other hand, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has said his Government will consider requests from the Taliban and New Delhi for allowing transit for Indian wheat being sent to Afghanistan.  However, Pakistan has denied overflight permission to the Srinagar-Sharjah flight nor has it admitted to the recent killing of an Indian fisherman on the high seas.
