The Punjab Police on Tuesday claimed to have nabbed “big fish’ with the arrest of Manjit Singh alias Manna and Lavjit alias Lav along with three others.
The police also seized three Kg heroin, 5.25 lakh drug money and three cars from them.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said Manna and Lav were most wanted criminals by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Mumbai, in 260 kg heroin seizure and Delhi Special Cell in 356 kg heroin seizure.
“They were also wanted in 616 kg heroin drug cases in Delhi and Mumbai. Both absconding since 2015 and had a dozen cases registered against them. They were having fake passports made from Lucknow on the addresses of Lakhimpur Kheri in UP. The accused were also involved deeply in the Hawala network, which has also been busted,” the DGP said.
Addressing a press conference, Commissioner of Police, Amritsar, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said it was the arrest of Harmanjit Singh alias Harman, a resident of Dhun Dhahewala village, which led to the arrest of the two.
Harman was arrested with 2 kg heroin, an electronic scale, Rs 1.25 lakh drug money along with an I-20 car on January 20.
Harman, during interrogation, had confessed that he got this heroin consignment from Manjit Singh alias Manna resident of Dhun Dhahewala of District Tarn Taran who is currently residing at Hargobindpura Mohala in Chheharta area. Manna gave this drug to supply it further.
On the confession of Harman, Police raided the residence of Manjit Singh Manna and nabbed him on January 22. Then police also arrested Manna’s brother Lovejit Singh alias Luv and his accomplish Manpreet Singh resident of Dhunn Dhahewala village. Police recovered 1 kg heroin, an SUV vehicle, Rs 4 lakh drug money and a motorcycle from him.
“After taking police remand, their backward and forward links would be ascertained. It is expected that there will be many more revelations from them”, said CP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar.
