After a local court awarded compensation to 40 of the Jodhpur detainees, the SGPC is all set to help the remaining detainees who were arrested by the Army and the police during Operation Bluestar in 1984.
SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal said the well being of the remaining 325 victims and their families would be the top priority.
“We have already offered jobs to the detainees and helped their children in their education in the past. Our endeavour is to identify those who could not come forward to fight legal battle and extending a helping hand to them too,” he said.
A subcommittee has been constituted to proceed further in the matter. During a meeting on Thursday, it was decided to depute SGPC employees to identify the affected persons. The panel included SGPC general secretary Gurbachan Singh Karmuwala, executive member Bhagwant Singh Sialka, member Manjit Singh Bhurakona, Gurcharan Singh Grewal, Amarjit Singh Chawla, Gurnam Singh and Harjinder Singh.
