Bikram Singh Majithia, former Cabinet minister and general secretary of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), held an election rally in Mattewal village, Majitha, here on Friday. He claimed that the party was ready to specify anything for Guru Granth Sahib. “It is for the first time in history that the Congress hasn’t been allowing the SAD to hold rallies. Fearing public support to the SAD, the Congress has been crushing democracy by putting ban on our rallies,” he said.

While supporting the candidates of zila parishad from Tarsika zone, Majithia said, “The Congress has been following in the footsteps of Indira Gandhi, who imposed Emergency. The Congress is worried about the successful rallies of the SAD, so they are trying to impose an emergency-like situation.”

Launching a scathing attack on Congress leader Sunil Jakhar, Majithia recalled some statement issued by his father Balram Jakhar “against Sikhs” in 1980s.

He also targeted Navjot Singh Sidhu, terming him a bhagat (disciple) of several tainted religious leaders. “He should become a gursikh first for talking about religious issues,” Majithia said.

“Parallel Jathedar Baljit Singh Daduwal is a Congress Jathedar. Indira Gandhi’s soul appears to have taken over him so he wants to disturbe the peace in Punjab,” Majithia added.

Several prominent leaders of area attended the rally.
