‘Kawela’ horror thriller to release on April 21

Amritsar, April 18

The star cast and crew of Punjabi movie “Kawela” visited the city for the promotion of the first Punjabi horror -cum-psychological thriller. The lead actor of the movie, Harp Farmer, along with director Amanjit Singh Brar released one of the songs, “Saanjha Wela” from the movie at a local hotel. The movie is scheduled to release on April 21 under the banner of Old Post Office Street Films, Dogar Wala Khoo Films and Harp Farmer Pictures.

The film is written and directed by Amarjit Singh Brar and Gagandeep Singh is the director of photography. Gurmoh has composed the music for the movie.

According to the director of the movie, it is a low-budget independent movie and no major production house or company is involved in the project.

Amanjit Brar, director of the movie, said, “The movie is a suspense about the unsolved murders in a village. Residents of the village have different opinions about the murders. Our people believe in ghosts, bad souls, tantra, myths and supernatural things. The rural society used to discuss about these things. Our movie depicts how people engaged themselves with such things. There are several parallel stories in the film. The situations are also defined with the classic poetry of Punjabi”.

Brar claimed that it is an experiment in the Punjabi film industry, as most of the film-makers follow the trend to get a box office hit. “We took the risk as we want to do something new and artistic. It is commercial movies which deal with several aspects of rural life. It is not a period movie but we showed the pre-mobile era of Punjab”, said Amanjit Brar.

Harp Farmer, lead actor of the movie, said, “The people would enjoy the movie as they will get something new on the Punjabi screen. All characters acted very natural”.
