Educational institutes celebrate Lohri

AMRITSAR: A number of educational institutes of the city celebrated Lohri with fervour on Saturday. DAV Public School organised a colourful programme in which children gave a brief introduction of the historical and cultural facts and events related to the festival.

Amritsar, January 12

A number of educational institutes of the city celebrated Lohri with fervour on Saturday.

DAV Public School organised a colourful programme in which children gave a brief introduction of the historical and cultural facts and events related to the festival. Children presented folk songs and giddha to add to the colourful celebrations. Principal Dr Neera Sharma greeted the students.

At Mount Litera Zee School, teachers and parents visited a blind school for underprivileged girls — Bibi Bhani Kaniya Netarheed Vidyalaya — where they donated Rs 20,000.

DR Modern Senior Secondary School also celebrated the festival.

At SSEC, Jandiala Guru, students sang traditional songs. Managing director Mangal Singh Kishanpuri acquainted students with the importance of Lohri festival.

Shri Ram Ashram Public School held a public awareness rally, which was flagged off by Principal Vinodita Sankhyan to spread awareness about the ill- effects of Chinese string. Around 400 students participated in the rally.

District Library Amritsar took part in the Lohri Mela organised by the district administration. Its stall was adjudged most vibrant and colourful.
