Amritsar, January 24

Mystery shrouds the death of an NRI identified as Sulakhan Singh, a resident of Daburji village.

While the city police have initiated action under Section 174 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) after finding his death suspicious, his family members had accused his wife for the murder.

Gurdip Singh, investigating officer from the Sultanwind police station, said there were certain injury marks on his body which had made his death mysterious.

He said the police had handed over the body to the family after the post-mortem examination. He said further action would be taken after the arrival of the autopsy report.

Ranjit Singh, brother of the deceased, said Sulakhan used to work in Italy and had returned recently.

He alleged that his wife had developed illicit relations with an auto-rickshaw driver and this had become a bone of contention between the couple. He said yesterday, they received a call from his wife that Sulakhan was not well. They said when they reached his house at Daburji he was not responding to their calls. They immediately called a doctor who referred him to a local hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Manjit Singh, SHO, Sultanwind police station, said though the police had initiated action under CrPC, further probe was under progress. Statements of the family members were being taken and whoever was responsible would be booked during the course of investigation, he added.
