Woman, daughter held for migrant worker’s murder

With the arrest of a woman and daughter, the city police today claimed to have cracked the blind murder case of a migrant, Ram Singh, who has found murdered in a bathroom on January 22.

The accused were identified as Ram Piari, wife of late Daya Ram, a resident of Akbarpur Ambedkar Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, and her daughter. They had been currently residing at a rented accommodation at Ajit Nagar in the Verka locality.

Jagjit Singh Walia, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) – Crime, said Ram Singh had been living at the residence of Surinder Kaur in Verka for past 10 years as a domestic help.

Around six years ago, Daya Rama along with his wife and daughter used to live as tenant at the residential complex of Surinder Kaur. Deceased Ram Singh used to live in the servant quarter located in the same complex.

Being migrants, he had developed a good relation with the family of Daya Ram. They even clicked a group family photograph with Ram Singh. After the death of Daya Ram, Ram Singh on the basis of his death certificate and a group photograph got prepared his passport, PAN card, ration card and several important documents by showing him as his father.

“Investigations revealed that Ram Singh had also developed illicit relations with his daughter. However, Ram Piari came to know about this and shifted to another rented accommodation in the same locality,” he said.

Parampal Singh, ADCP City-I, who was also part of the investigating team, said Ram Piari used to demand the death certificate and group photograph from Ram Singh. She later demanded Rs 1 lakh from him as he was using her husband’s name and his death certificate for his works. Initially, Ram Singh agreed for the same, but, he was dilly dallying over this. Recently, she had a verbal dual with the deceased Ram Singh who refused to hand over the same to her. Perturbed over this, she hatched a plan to kill him.
