Amritsar, December 5

A three-week orientation programme 108 concluded at the UGC-Human Resource Development Centre of Guru Nanak Dev University. Around 23 teachers engaged in the domain of higher education in the country pertaining to a multiplicity of academic disciplines participated in it.

During the programme these teachers were brought face to face with eminent academicians belonging to a wide spectrum of disciplines in the form of formal as well as informal interactions, lectures, hands-on workshops, seminars, etc.

Dr Manoj Kumar, professor in-charge (examinations) and professor of chemistry, GNDU, presided over the valedictory session. Hailing the participants on the addition of another feather in their cap in the form of participation in an orientation programme, he counselled them to disseminate the knowledge, scholarly expertise, erudition gained during the programme not only amongst their students, but also their peers. Only then the real aim of such courses can be accomplished, he added.

Labelling the teaching profession as the noblest one, he underlined the vital role played by the teaching fraternity in moulding the careers of younger generation. He expressed his deep anguish over the fact that the teachers of today try to avoid the duties related to their profession like, paper-setting, invigilation, evaluation etc., which, he emphasised, are in fact, an indispensable part of their profession. The teaching community at large can’t afford to confine itself only to classroom teaching, but, we have to realise our other responsibilities towards the society as well, particularly, in the current scenario, he concluded.

Prof Adarsh Pal Vig, director of the centre, thanked university authorities for their support.
