The city’s worry regarding the unattended garbage for two days is expected to end on Tuesday as the solid waste management firm, entrusted with the responsibility of lifting waste, has claimed that its employees will return to work. Due to the strike, garbage bins have already brimmed over with refuse that can be seen getting scattered on roads.

Firm in-charge Manoj Kumar said, “The work will resume tomorrow morning. The workers have agreed as they will be paid salaries tomorrow. We have received the funds from the MC.”

The employees engaged with the company for waste collection from the city had initiated strike on Sunday complaining that their salaries of two months hadn’t been released.

Manoj Kumar said the salaries of the second month too would be released within a few days. The civic body has engaged the company for collection of solid waste from households and roads.

With the workers visiting homes and clearing dustbins almost every day, the waste collection and disposal work had been going on smoothly for months. However, the current strike by the employees has troubled the residents as the bins on roadsides are overflowing.

Even at homes, residents have been waiting for the collection vans to arrive, but to no avail. With the hope that the work will start tomorrow, the residents have heaved a sigh of relief.
