Bathinda, August 13

Haphazard parking along Mall Road causes inconvenience to commuters, leading to traffic snarls.

A number of cars and two-wheelers can be spotted parked along the road, while the authorities concerned have turned a blind eye towards the problem. As a result, it has become a nuisance for pedestrians and commuters.

Besides Mall Road, haphazard parking along the roadside and footpaths disrupts traffic movement in other parts of the city on a daily basis. Apart from traffic snarls in busy markets, these wrongly parked vehicles pose a threat of an untoward incident.

A number of vehicles can be spotted parked along the roadside and footpaths on Bibi Wala Road, Bank Bazaar, Kikkar Bazaar, Dhobi Bazaar, Mall Road, GT Road, Goniana Road and Sirki Bazaar. It becomes difficult for commuters to negotiate their vehicles through the wrongly parked vehicles. Sometimes these vehicles lead to a complete roadblock.

Gurpreet Singh, a resident, said, “Apart from commuters, shoppers and pedestrians find it difficult to move around in busy market areas due to the wrongly parked vehicles. It is the nonchalant attitude of the authorities concerned that has emboldened people to flout traffic norms with impunity. Had the authorities dealt with these violators strictly, traffic scene on streets and roads would have been different.”

DSP (Traffic) Gurjeet Singh Romana said, “I will direct the officials to start lifting wrongly parked vehicles along the roadside. We will also ensure required punitive action against traffic violators.”
