Government Rajindra College has accepted the demand of the Punjab Students Union to waive the Parent-Teachers Association fund of 60 students belonging to the SC category.

These students have been asked to submit the income certificate on Tuesday. Officials have also asked them to sign an undertaking. According to it, after getting the post-matric scholarship amount, they have to return it to the college.

However, the final decision on PTA fund waiver of two students — one from the BC category and other from the General Category — will be taken by college principal Jyoti Parkash, who will join duties on Tuesday.

The SC students get their post-matric scholarship amount in their bank accounts. College officials said the SC students were yet to receive their scholarship amount for the past two years.

College vice-principal Jagdeesh Kaur said, “We have asked students to submit their income certificate so that we can take the matter forward. However, students seeking the PTA fund waiver have to submit an undertaking. We have also written to Director of the College Education in this regard. However, we are yet to get any response. The move will surely put an impact on the finance condition of the college as we have been instructed that the PTA fund should be taken from every student, irrespective of their category, at the time of admission.”

On pending post-matric scholarship amount, she said students would get it soon.

College officials believe that the fee waiver would impact the financial condition of the college as salaries of guest teachers are paid through the PTA fund only.

Sangeeta Rani, a leader of Punjab Students’ Union, said, “Officials have assured the SC students of the PTA fund waiver. All students have been asked to submit their income certificates. They will take an undertaking from us that on receiving the scholarship amount, we will return it to the college.”
