Finance Minister Arun Jaitley released NITI Aayog’s strategy paper on New India envisaging goals for the country to achieve in the 75th year of Independence in 2022 on Wednesday.

He, however, acknowledged that "economic reforms since 1991 have yielded dividends".

The emphasis on reforms needed to be accompanied by social consciousness, said Jaitley, adding that "sloganeering will only derail the efforts of the government".

The central government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to the strategy paper, is aiming to set up an independent regulator for Indian Railways.

The central government's target is for India is to be a $4.0 trillion economy by 2022, when India celebrates the 75th anniversary of independence.

Modi had earlier given a clarion call for establishing a New India by 2022.
