Maha launches mobile markets for farmers

MUMBAI:The Maharashtra Government has launched a project named after Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Mumbai, August 16

The Maharashtra Government has launched a project named after Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Namo Yuva Rozgar Kendra, as the farmers’ market on wheels is called, prominently sports the visage of BJP president Amit Shah, along with Modi.

Inaugurating the first 10 vans on yesterday, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the number would go up to 125. Fresh vegetables would be on sale at competitive prices, he said. The state government would revive the defunct Maharashtra Agro and Fruit Processing Corporation, which would sign an MoU with NGO Mee Mumbai Abhiyan-Abhiman.

BJP leader Prasad Lad, who is behind the project, said it would benefit both farmers and consumers. “While farmers will be free from the clutches of middlemen, consumers won’t have to pay high prices for vegetables,” he said. The number of mobile farmers’ markets would be ultimately increased to 500 in the coming months.  — TNS
