Deputy Commissioner Gurpreet Kaur Sapra on Wednesday said the administration would make all-out efforts to end the menace of drugs.

While presiding over the workshop organised for SMOs , medical officers, psychiatrists and other officials regarding the treatment of addicts here on Wednesday, the DC said free medical treatment would be given to drug addicts belonging to economically weaker sections. “The expenses of their travel from their houses to the hospital will be paid by the DC office,” she added.

Addressing officials, the DC said drug addicts or persons under the influence of drugs should be given first aid and referred to hospitals, drug de-addiction or rehabilitation centres, if the need for the same was felt.

Doctors would be available for 24 hours at the Rehabilitation Centre, Sector 66, she said. Moreover, such patients must be treated properly as normal patients, she said, while adding that any negligence on the part of doctors and officials concerned would not be tolerated.
