Seven gold chains, a pair gold earrings and four stolen two-wheelers have been recovered from the two brothers who were arrested by the crime branch of the UT police for snatchings in the city.

A drug peddler to whom the accused used to give snatched jewellery in return of drugs has also been arrested.

DSP Crime Pawan Kumar said the accused, Naman Sehgal (26) and Shubham Seghal (23), were active in the city for the last a month and a half. “The accused were earlier involved in snatching incidents in Jalandhar. They were identified by the Punjab Police, after which they shifted their base to Chandigarh,” the DSP added.

Crime branch incharge Inspector Amanjot Singh said the drug peddler had been identified as Gurdeep Singh, alias Kala, of Mandi Gobindgarh.

The accused brothers were earlier lodged at the Kapurthala jail where they met one Amrik Singh, who had asked them to contact Kala for drugs after getting released, the police claimed.
