Apropos of a news item, ‘Helmet to be must for women’ (April 25), women are equally vulnerable to injuries while riding a two-wheeler. In fact, accidents don’t distinguish between people’s gender or religion. So, wearing helmet must be compulsory for women while riding a two-wheeler. Helmet not only reduces injuries, but also eliminate life-long suffering of families of mishap victims. Even if it is not compulsory, why should women not wear helmets. In my view, I feel that every woman, irrespective of religion, must wear a helmet as it is for everybody’s safety and the rule must be implemented uniformly.

Free city from stray dogs, beggars

The city has been invaded by a large number of stray dogs.

Even former Mayor of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation Harjinder Kaur was bitten by stray dogs. The UT Administration should get the city completely free from beggars and stray dogs.

Save water

The summer season is arriving and taps are going dry. The Municipal Corporation has started its annual drive against watering of lawns, courtyards and washing of cars and other vehicles using pipes. Teams have been constituted to check water wastage in any part of the city and they are working for it. According to experts of water organisations, the World War III will be fought for water. The groundwater level is gradually depleting. Cape Town in South Africa ran out of drinking water in April. The epic of Mahabharata had also stressed that water should be saved. The MC should make all efforts to save water. Every resident of the tricity should help MCs in this regard.
