Panchkula, September 1

Punjab Governor VP Singh Badnore said today that education was crucial for empowering women in every sphere of life. Badnore was addressing the audience at a function organised for the Women Political Empowerment Awards-2019 in Panchkula.

The Governor said the gender ratio in Haryana and Rajasthan was earlier decreasing at an alarming rate of 80 per cent, but due to concerted efforts of the government, it has been improving with time. He said the level of education has seen a considerable change, but the rural India was far behind the urban areas. He said now the women were performing well in all fields.

Talking about the recent convocation held at Baba Farid University of Health Sciences in Faridkot, he said he was surprised to see that 80 per cent of the students at the convocation were girls.

Taking a dig at corruption prevailing in the society, Badnore said generally women were less corrupt than men. He said recently, he received four names for the post of the SSP in Chandigarh which included a woman. He said as Chandigarh had never a woman SSP, he decided to appoint one.
