Patriotic fervour gripped Tagore Theatre during the staging of a Punjabi play, ‘Bhagat Singh ki kahani Durga bhabhi ki zubani’, on Day 4 of the ongoing Tricity Drama Festival organised by Tagore Theatre Society and UT Cultural Affairs Department here on Thursday.

The play director, Rajiv Mehta, sculpted the play from three stories authored by Piyush Mishra, Sagar Sarhadi and Devender Daman. The play was a tribute to the contribution of the valiant Durga Bhabhi, wife of freedom fighter Bhagwati Charan Vohra, the unsung force behind the comrades who made supreme sacrifices for Independence.

The play depicted various episodes relating to the activities of committed brave comrades of the Hindustan Social Republic Association (HSRA) led by Chandra Shekhar Azad. They greeted Bhagat Singh with enthusiasm.

The director had presented Durga Bhabhi as sutradhar, the great revolutionary who had been fully associated with activities of the HSRA. She had even travelled with Bhagat Singh as his wife after he had killed Saunders and later on October 9, 1930, she opened fire on Punjab Governor Halley who escaped, but his officer Tylor was killed. All actors, including Yogesh Arora, Sudamini, Bhupinder Sandhu and Asha Saklani essayed their roles well.
