Court allows DNA retest

CHANDIGARH: A local court allowed the application of the police to reconduct the DNA test of the elder uncle, one of the accused in the 10-year-old’s rape case.

Chandigarh, September 21

A local court allowed the application of the police to reconduct the DNA test of the elder uncle, one of the accused in the 10-year-old’s rape case. The sample will be taken on Friday.

The two-day police remand of the younger uncle and second accused in the case will also end on Friday and he will be produced before the Judge.

After the police moved an application for the DNA retest, the defence had sought time to file a reply. The reply opposed the retest saying that it was not fair to reconduct the test and that it would set a trend for other cases as well. However, the Judge allowed the application today.

After the DNA report of the elder uncle proved that he had not fathered the victim’s child, the police had moved the plea. The younger uncle was arrested on Tuesday after the victim named him. — TNS
