Chandigarh, January 31

The city has witnessed the first dengue case of the year. Considered to be a fever of tropical weather conditions, the confirmation of the dengue case in January has sent the Health Department in a tizzy.

The patient has been identified as 15-year-old Kanika, a resident of Sector 41-A.

She underwent week-long treatment at the PGI. The PGI authorities have shared the information about the conformation of the first dengue case of the year.

According to Kanika’s mother Anu Sharma, her daughter has fully recovered. “She had visited the house of her maternal grandmother in Kapurthala to spend the winter vacation. Soon after returning from Kapurthala, she had high fever and rashes all over her body. When her condition deteriorated, she was taken to the PGI where doctors told us that Kanika was suffering from dengue,” said Anu Sharma.

She said she was worried about her daughter’s health. “She is studying in Class X and prolong fever could have affected her studies. She had suffered from dengue in October as well. It is a mystery how she suffered from the same fever again,” said Anu Sharma. Fogging has not been carried out in the area so far.

Dr Gaurav Aggarwal, nodal anti-malaria officer, UT, said the patient had suffered from dengue in October too.

“There is no need to panic. The dengue strain remains there for six months and there is a chance of relapse. The girl has again tested positive for dengue,” said Dr Aggarwal.
