Fascinated by B-town, girl flees home; reunited with parents

Fascination for the Bollywood and the desire to become an actress made a 14-year-old girl leave for Mumbai.

As per information, Neha, a Class VIII student at Government High School, Ramgarh, and a resident of Daffarpur village near Dera Bassi, had gone missing on May 21. A report in this regard was lodged by her parents after they failed to trace her, suspecting that she might have been abducted by their neighbour Sanjay, a tailor, as he was a regular visitor to their house.

Mohinder Singh, SHO, Dera Bassi, said with a dream to make it big in the Bollywood, Neha left for Mumbai. She wanted to become a TV actress and participate in reality shows. “Another reason that made her leave was that her parents kept nagging her for small things and were against her wish of becoming an actress,” the SHO said.

The SHO said Neha left home for school on May 21 but instead went to the Chandigarh railway station and boarded a train to Mathura. From there, she went to Mumbai.

When she did not come back till late in the evening on May 21, her worried parents approached the Mubarikpur police and lodged a complaint.

The local police brought the matter to the knowledge of Mohali SSP Kuldeep Singh Chahal, who alerted police stations across other states, along with her description.

On presuming that the victim would be contacting her relatives, the police placed their mobile phone under surveillance, said the SHO.

The police finally traced her last location to Baroda, when the girl called her aunt and enquired about her well-being. Talking over the phone, her aunt requested her to come back. The girl was then brought back to Dera Bassi from the Ambala railway station and joined with her parents here on Friday after proper counselling.

Refused to return home

Parents of 14-year-old Neha were in for a rude shock when they reached the Dera Bassi police station to bring the girl back. The minor refused to return home. A woman constable counselled her after which she agreed to go home. The girl’s father is a security guard and has three children.
