A vehicle thief, who used to steal two-wheelers for joyrides, has been arrested by the Chandigarh Police. With his arrest, six cases of vehicle theft have been solved and 17 two-wheelers have been recovered.
DSP (East) Satish Kumar said the accused, Appu, alias Anbhu, a resident of Sector 21, was arrested on a tip-off at a naka in Sector 28. The accused was riding a stolen motorcycle at the time of his arrest. The accused confessed that he had stolen the motorcycle from Sector 27.
Inspector Jaspal Bhullar, SHO of the Sector 26 police station, said during questioning, the accused gave information about having stolen another vehicle. The police got his two-day remand during which 15 more two-wheelers were recovered from different part of the city on the disclosure made by the accused. “Eleven motorcycles and six scooters have been recovered,” said a police official.
Used to abandon vehicles
The accused used to steal the vehicles for joyrides after taking liquor. He used to abandon the vehicles after these ran out of fuel. The police said the accused did not sell the vehicles.
2 held with stolen car, mobikes
Two vehicle thieves have been arrested by the Chandigarh Police. Three motorcycles and a car have been recovered from their possession. Sources said Ravi Kumar and Harsh, alias Billa, both residents of Sector 56, were arrested for vehicle thefts by a team of the Palsora police post. Inspector Rajdeep Singh, SHO of the Sector 39 police station, said the accused were arrested at a naka near a government school in Sector 56 on a tip-off that they were riding a stolen motorcycle. The police said Ravi Kumar was a mechanic while Harsh was a school dropout. Both were drug addicts. The accused were looking for some customer to sell the vehicle.
