Immigration consultant gets jail for fraud

MOHALI: The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate here has sent an immigration consultant to jail in two separate cases of cheating.

The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate here has sent an immigration consultant to jail in two separate cases of cheating.

The convict, Deepak Arora of Jet Immigration, has been awarded a five-year jail term, along with a fine of Rs 10,000 in one case and three-year sentence, along with a fine of Rs 5,000 in the other. Both cases were registered in 2012.

In the first case, around 10 persons, including Harpreet Singh of Ludhiana, had lodged a complaint against Arora, who was running his immigration consultancy firm from Phase 1 here. In their complaint, the victims had alleged that Arora had taken over Rs 10 lakhs from them on the pretext of sending them to foreign country.

The complainant in the second case, Kamal, alleged that he had given Arora Rs 1.85 lakhs to go abroad.

In both cases, the victims alleged that Arora neither sent them to foreign country nor returned their money.

Acting on the complaints, cheating cases were registered against Deepak Arora at the Phase 1 police station.
