Kangra boy gives new lease of life to 4

CHANDIGARH: On World Organ Donation Day on Monday, a Kangra-based family donated organs of their son to give fresh lease of life to four people.

Chandigarh, August 13

On World Organ Donation Day on Monday, a Kangra-based family donated organs of their son to give fresh lease of life to four people.

Aman (27) from Kangra in Himachal Pradesh was admitted to the PGI after falling from a height on August 3. Since then, he had been battling between life and death. Aman’s condition deteriorated on Sunday morning and he was declared brain dead in the evening.

In the meantime, transplant coordinators at the PGIMER apprised the deceased’s relatives of prospects of utilising his organs through donation for transplants to terminally-ill organ failure patients. Deceased’s parents — Dhani Ram and Chanchala Devi — consented to the proposal of organ donation and the departments concerned started reaching out to the matching recipients. Matching recipients for liver, kidneys and pancreas were found at the PGI and for heart in the Army Hospital in New Delhi .

“My brother was a national-level sportsman. Compassion and helping others was at the core of his being,” said Sandeep, the younger brother of donor Aman. —TNS
