Chandigarh, February 17

A local court has awarded one-year imprisonment to a Fatehgarh Sahib resident in an Arms Act case. A fine of Rs 7,000 was also imposed on Lal Singh.

On September 26, 2016, the police received a wireless message that one revolver was found from a car in Sector 42. A constable had claimed that he saw a Swift car in which he found a black revolver in a pouch with five live cartridges.

When confronted, the accused revealed his name to be Lal Singh. He neither gave any satisfactory reason for carrying the said weapon nor he could produce any permit or licence for the same. The revolver was a 32MK III Field Gun Kanpur.

On further checking, eight live 32 bore cartridges were found from the dash board of the car.

The defence counsel, however, argued that Lal Singh had been falsely implicated in the case and that the accused’s licence for the revolver was lying in his car. An FIR was registered against him and the court held him guilty under Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act.
