Punjab Health and Family Welfare and Labour Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu has said that though the Central Government owed Rs 4,100 crore of Goods and Services Tax (GST) to Punjab, no compromise would be held on development front.

Balbir Singh Sidhu stated this on the sidelines of distributing cheques worth Rs 22 lakh for street work in Green Avenue, sewerage works in Ashram Colony and construction of a boundary wall of a crematorium in Ballo Majra village.

Sidhu said Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal had strongly put up the case before Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and added that the latter had assured him to release Rs 2,100 crore to Punjab soon.

He said Punjab was facing financial crunch as it had not received its GST share from the Centre. He assured that no compromise would be held on the development front.

Addressing the gathering at Green Enclave, Sidhu said he had raised the issue of regularising this colony as well as Ashram Colony with Cabinet Minister Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria who had assured that he would regularise these colonies soon.
