Chandigarh, October 18

A teenager has been sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment for raping a minor.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on the convict, Naseem (19). A co-accused in the case, Arun Kumar, was however acquitted due to lack of evidence.

Naseem has been held guilty under Section 6 of the POCSO Act.

As per allegations, Naseem had kept the then 16-year-old victim in Hyderabad and raped her. Allegations on Arun were that he had forcibly taken the victim to Hyderabad and raped her. However, these allegations could not be proved.

The victim’s advocate Sajjal Sharma informed that Naseem had raped her repeatedly over a period. A case of gang rape was registered on the complaint of the victim’s brother who stated that on September 4, 2017, his sister had left the house and did not return. After around 45 days, the girl returned home and informed her family about her ordeal.

She told the family that Arun forcibly took her to Hyderabad from Sector 17 via Delhi, in a train. Arun had allegedly threatened her not to tell anyone about it or he would kill her family. They met Naseem in Hyderabad and the duo allegedly raped her.
