Chandigarh, October 18

The UT Administration today held a draw of lots for issuing 96 licences to sell crackers in the city. Nearly 2,000 persons had applied for the licence.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Mandip Singh Brar suspended an employee of the DC office after the draw was delayed by more than two hours.

The Administration had fixed 3 pm as the time for the draw. However, no employee came to the spot at the given time to conduct the draw, following which agitated traders filed a complaint with the high-ups.

An official of the DC office said the delay occurred due to a mismatch in forms and slips. It took hours to rectify the mistakes, the official added. — TNS
