Though the Patiala district has secured second position as 52 students were able to secure their names in the merit list in the Class X results of the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB), the pass percentage remained terribly low, which linger on only 47.72 per cent.

The overall pass percentage of the PSEB has been recorded at 57.50 per cent, which is around 10 per cent more than the statistics of Patiala.

It has also slipped around 11 per cent as compared to the last year Class 10 PSEB results, as in 2016, it was recorded at 68.76 per cent.

As many as 21,164 students of the district appeared for the matriculation examinations, out of which only 10,100 students passed.

District Education Officer (DEO), Secondary, Ravinder Singh, said, “We will evaluate the reasons behind the low pass percentage of the district.”

“Even the pass percentage of the students of the district remained low, but we have also placed the record number, 52 students, in the merit list which is a big achievement. A girl from Patiala district has also bagged third position in the sports category in the overall results,” the DEO said.

A private school of the city, Playways Senior Secondary School, topped the category of schools across the state by having 20 students in the merit list.
