Chandigarh, June 22

Don’t be surprised if the same ill-mannered security guard of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research greets you with a smile. After receiving repeated complaints of the boorish attitude of the security guards, the PGI administration has decided to impart etiquette training to the security staff.

Deputy Director, Administration, PGIMER, Amitabh Avasthi said soft skill classes would be conducted soon where special emphasis would be laid on etiquettes.

“In the soft skill course, special emphasis will be laid on the benefits of good behaviour. At least, one should be polite with elderly, women and children,” said Avasthi.

Sources said besides the senior faculty of the hospital, sociologist, psychologist and personality development experts would be invited to train the security guards.

The PGI has always remained in news for the bad behaviour of its security staff. There have been several complaints on security staff manhandling patients and relatives.

On the other hand, the security staff has their own grudge. They say they are hard-pressed due to huge rush of patients. A security guard said, “People park their vehicles in the middle of the road leading to the emergency. One can see hoards of people squatting outside the emergency and other important medical units. The doctors blame us for the chaos. Actually it is the bad attitude of people that has made us rude.”
