PATIALA:Former Punjabi University professor Malkeet Singh held an interactive session with students from Government Meritorius School, Patiala, today and made them aware about severe water crisis in the state.

Former Punjabi University professor Malkeet Singh held an interactive session with students from Government Meritorius School, Patiala, today and made them aware about severe water crisis in the state.

He said around 40 lakh water pumps in the state were continuously pumping out water. He said, “Around 4,500 litres of underground water is used to produce 1 Kg of rice.” He said following excessive use of water in the state, water level in 116 blocks of the state has come under dark zone. — TNS
