Three Pulwama natives detained for questioning

CHANDIGARH:Three persons, all natives of Pulwama district in Jammu and Kashmir, were detained by the Chandigarh police from a hotel in Sector 34 during the wee hours here on Tuesday.

Three persons, all natives of Pulwama district in Jammu and Kashmir, were detained by the Chandigarh police from a hotel in Sector 34 during the wee hours here on Tuesday.

The three were rounded up on the basis of inputs from intelligence agencies. However, the police have not found anything suspicious. The police had information that three persons, who might be possessing weapons, have entered Chandigarh in a white i20 car, bearing a J&K number plate.

On investigation, the cops found that the suspects have taken a room on rent at Orbit Hotel in Sector 34. Police teams conducted a raid at the hotel around 3.30 am and rounded up the suspects.

The police said while one of the suspects is 18-year-old, the other two are around 30 years old.

Police officials said information submitted at the hotel by the suspects while taking the room was found to be genuine and no banned items were recovered from them. The suspects claimed that they have come to Chandigarh for sightseeing.

They were being questioned by different wings of the UT police, including the Operations Cell.

“We have contacted the local police station at their home town to verify their antecedents,” said a police official.

The police said the suspects stayed in Pathankot on Monday. Sources said they were supposed to go to Ludhiana. However, they reached Chandigarh which further raised suspicion.

A Daily Dairy Report (DDR) regarding the matter has been lodged at the Sector 34 police station.

No banned items recovered: Cops

Police officials said information submitted at the hotel by the suspects while taking the room was found to be genuine and no banned items were recovered from them. The suspects claimed that they have come to Chandigarh for sightseeing.
