UT cops start tenant verification drive

CHANDIGARH: Embarrassed after the Punjab Police disclosed that gangster Dilpreet Singh who was wanted in over 30 cases, was staying in Sector 38, Chandigarh, for the past one year, the UT Police on Tuesday initiated a tenant verification drive.

Embarrassed after the Punjab Police disclosed that gangster Dilpreet Singh who was wanted in over 30 cases, was staying in Sector 38, Chandigarh, for the past one year, the UT Police on Tuesday initiated a tenant verification drive.

A senior officer issued directions to all SHOs to verify people staying on rent in their areas.

During the drive, 10 paying guest (PGs) accommodation were checked by the staff of Sector 11 police station. Two cases were registered against owners who were violating the orders of the UT Deputy Commissioner.

Police stations falling under the east division, including Sector 19, Sector 26, Industrial Area, IT Park, Mauli Jagran and Mani Majra police station, also conducted a drive. During the drive, 121 tenants staying in houses and 26 PGs were verified.

Similarly, police stations falling under the south division verified 262 tenants and 10 servants. Meanwhile, two cases were also registered at the Sector 34 and 39 police stations. The police said landlords are requested to verify the particulars of servants and tenants.
