Woman dies of swine flu at GMCH

CHANDIGARH: A 53-year-old woman belonging to Yamunanagar died of swine flu at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, here today.

Chandigarh, February 11

A 53-year-old woman belonging to Yamunanagar died of swine flu at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, here today. She was admitted to the hospital last night after being referred from Fortis Hospital in Mohali in a critical condition.

While no new case of swine flu was reported from city today, throat swab samples of six patients were taken today. The reports are awaited.

So far, six cases of swine flu have been reported from the tricity, including three deaths. In all, around 265 tests have been conducted at the virology lab of the PGI that caters to the entire region. Swine flu is an infection caused due to the transmission of the deadly H1N1 virus. Prolonged flu, blood in sputum and fever are the common symptoms of the disease and it can prove fatal if left undiagnosed for long.

Washing your hands often is an effective way of preventing the infection. Tamiflu cures swine flu. The medicines are provided at all government hospitals free of cost. Quarantining is a process in which a patient is restricted either to his or her residence or an isolated ward for a period of at least seven days.
