The DSGMC submitted a complaint to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting against movie – Manmarziyaan – for hurting Sikh sentiments by depicting Sikh Gurus, members, traditions and principles in derogatory manner. The committee also filed a complaint against director Anurag Kashyap.

A large number of Sikhs today protested at five places in protest against the film that was released on September 14 for showing the Sikh characters smoking whereas smoking is banned in Sikhism, the complaint said.

The DSGMC appealed to the government to suspend the screening of Manmarziyaan until objectionable portions are removed, revoke the certificate granted to exhibit the film, direct all TV channels prohibit broadcasting the film certified as “U” by the film certification board. It also appealed to re-examine the film by involving Sikh bodies, individuals and other stakeholders in examining group and pass directions to include Sikh members in the certificate granting committee from statutory bodies like SGPC.

The complaint said that several other films like Dishoom, Santa Banta, Nanak Shah Fakir, etc., in the past had been granted certificate without following the due procedure.
