Teachers of the Guru Harkrishan Public School, Shahdara, run by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC), today gave an ultimatum to the management threatening strike from Friday in protest against non-payment of arrears of the Sixth Pay Commission, TA and DA.

Jaswant Kaur, who is leading the teaching staff, said that despite the repeated appeals to the school management, it has failed to fulfil their demands. The teachers yesterday met Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Manish Sisodia appealing to him to pressurise the authorities concerned in this regard. They had also submitted a memorandum to him last month.

He assured the teachers of looking into their demands, Jaswant Kaur said.

The agitating teachers informed Sisodia that they had not been paid arrears of the Sixth Pay Commission. They also went to the Delhi High Court in 2011. The court delivered judgement in favour of the teachers. The school has collected the money from the students, but failed to give the arrears to the teachers, said Jaswant Kaur.

General secretary of the DSGMC, Manjinder Singh Sirsa said, "We have already given an undertaking to the court for looking into their grievances. It will take a few days to work out the problems faced by them. The teachers should cooperate with the management and should not take any step that will affect the study of students."
