New Delhi, April 25

A team of Special Cell (Northern Range) has arrested a criminal, Dinesh Yadav (37), a resident of Mangolpuri, from Rithala Village, Rohini. He is involved in several cases of dacoity murder and the Arm’s Act. A country-made pistol with one live cartridge has been recovered from his possession, said a police official.

Dinesh is a “bad character” of Mangolpuri and was declared “proclaimed offender” in two cases and a reward of Rs 50,000 was declared on his arrest by the Delhi Police.

In 2015, he was released on “interim bail” in a murder case, but he jumped bail and had been absconding since then. Information was received that Dinesh is trying to lure some criminals to form a new gang for the purpose of committing robberies and extortion.

On April 23 the police received information that Dinesh has called one of his aides at Rithala Village in noon hours to meet him.

Accordingly, a trap was laid. As Dinesh reached the spot, he was strategically cordoned off by the police and was asked to surrender, but he whipped out his pistol and attempted to fire at police officials. However, he was overpowered by the police. Further investigation is in progress, said DCP Sanjeev Kumar Yadav (Special Cell).
