Railway running staff holds 36-hr protest

NEW DELHI:A large number of loco pilots and Railway guards are sitting on fast for 36 hours starting from 8 am today at Jantar Mantar to pressurise the Indian Railways to accept their long pending demands including hike in salaries.

A large number of loco pilots and Railway guards are sitting on fast for 36 hours starting from 8 am today at Jantar Mantar to pressurise the Indian Railways to accept their long pending demands including hike in salaries. They also submitted a representation to the Railway Minister and the chairman of the Railway Board.

They demanded 14.29 per cent hike in pay to all running staff as given to all Central government staff, classification of running staff as intensive and limit maximum duty from eight hours, revise crew links with not more than two continuous night duties and 40 hours weekly rest.

They also demanded to withdraw Railway Board order to impose removal or dismissal as minimum penalty for signal passing at danger, revise running allowance, stop running of goods trains without brake van and guard and scrap new pension system.
