Woman held captive for 3 months rescued

NEW DELHI:The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has rescued a 20-year-old from Pitampura.

New Delhi, June 29

The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has rescued a 20-year-old from Pitampura. The girl hails from Ranchi in Jharkhand.

The commission received information from an NGO, HRLN, seeking help in rescuing her. The DCW set up a team, which approached the police and the Labour Department. The team visited the house where the girl was held captive.

The team rescued her in an extremely traumatised condition. She said she had been forcefully kept in the house for the past three months.

The girl stated that for the year that she was kept in the house, she was forced to work from 6 am to 11 pm. She had to do all household chores, including cooking for 15 persons. She said she had not received any payment and was often beaten by the house owners. She was not allowed to go out of the house.

The Delhi Police have registered an FIR. The team has shifted the girl to a shelter. No arrests have been made in the matter yet. — TNS
